Recently, the Mexican media published an article stating that the annual overseas export volume of Mexican furniture exceeds 12.7 billion US dollars and ranks fifth in the world. The United States is the main buyer of Mexican furniture. In the past five years, the export to the United States has increased by more than 65%, and the export volume of Mexican furniture to the United States has exceeded that of Asian competitors such as China and Vietnam.
In order to legally avoid tariffs and get closer to the US market to reduce transportation costs, an increasing number of Chinese furniture manufacturers have entered Mexico. And not long ago, the Mexican government imposed a high tariff of up to 50% on building materials, home furnishing and other products, which was indicated to be aimed at China. At present, enterprises such as Minhua, Gujia, and Sunon are all significantly expanding their factories in Mexico.
Indeed, the order volumes of several Mexican customers of TD Furniture have significantly decreased this year. There is a customer who originally had 15 to 20 containers per year, but by the end of May this year, only 3 containers have been shipped out. Another customer has clearly stated that the tariff is too high and there is no way to place a repeat order. There is also one that originally bought sofas, dining tables, dining chairs and coffee tables from TD FURNITURE, but now only buys dining chairs and doesn't want the others anymore.
